This article focuses on the processes of departure, passage, stopovers, and arrival that exiled artists on the flight went through in the first half of the 20th century. How do artists reflect on their exile? How are departure and arrival, but also the passage and stopovers, characterized by different modalities and spaces of action? In reference to the title of the anthology Leave, left, left, the paper will reflect on the different stages through four examples. The selected actors, places, times and works – from London, to India, Buenos Aires, Shanghai and New York – show routes of exile that ran across several continents.
