"Still Fighting for Modern Art. Rosa Schapire in England"
Rosa und Anna Schapire – Sozialwissenschaft, Kunstgeschichte und Feminismus um 1900, edited by Burcu Dogramaci and Günther Sandner, Aviva, 2017, pp. 229–256
This article is dedicated to the work of the emigrated art historian Rosa Schapire in exile in London, where she lived in precarious financial conditions. Her commitment to Expressionism and especially the work of the artist Karl Schmidt-Rottluff met with little approval. Only with difficulty was she able to popularise Expressionist art – mostly outside London – through loans for exhibitions. Above all, however, Schapire’s activity as a critic and correspondent for the German magazine Weltkunst is examined in more detail.
